About Ricardo Amaro
Born 1980 in Almada, Portugal. Grew up in Lisbon playing with Lego and
all the toys he could disassemble.
At age 11, moved with his family to Macau where he witnessed China's
technological growth during the 1990s. This fortunate circumstance
allowed him access to all kinds of gadgets, especially computers.
Fell in love with Linux, programming and his dial up connection when
he was 16.
Ricardo started his first job at the Macau Power Plant as
an intranet help-desk. There he got his first real view of the
challenging corporate world, having to deal with its most common
problems.
He went back to Portugal alone to pursue a degree in Computer Science
at the University of Lisbon. Always working while studying, Ricardo
started freelancing as a programmer and taking a few jobs as a system
administrator at some local businesses, including universities, telecoms and ISPs.
Ricardo has an extensive experience in Linux and UNIX systems, programming, databases, distributed systems and heavy metal.
A few companies where he worked at include (by some particular order): C.E.M, OniWay, Zapp, RIM and FTSE.
Ricardo is currently living and working in bloody lovely London.
