G5 Powerbooks… Nope, Not Yet.
An email popped in my inbox.
"INFO ESPECIAL NOVA LINHA DE POWERBOOKS APPLE” from Pedro Aniceto’s iclub mailing list linking to apple’s website. New powerbooks are out, 512MB standart (its about time), bluetooth 2.0, still no default superbdrive (not a typo, i call it superbdrive) on 12inch versions, a 1.5GHz/1.67GHz speedbump, sudden motion sensor technology for protecting your harddrive from impacts (i’m sceptical about this one) and last but not least, scroll mate for scrolling with your trackpad. Is this scroll mate enhancement just a new firmware for the trackpad? It might be, its nothing but something similar to uControl’s trackpad features anyway.
Im still pretty happy with my recently 2nd-hand purchased powerbook and it has more ram than the new announced pbooks. Bluetooth 2.0 promises to be faster, do we need faster bluetooth? I dont, i get decent transfer rates with my mobile phone with files or GPRS. And Bluetooth 2.0 lets you take advantage of GPRS connectivity to check your email from anywhere — a benefit that comes in handy on those occasions when an 802.11 wireless hot spot isn’t available.… erm, GPRS connectivity is not new on bluetooth 2.0. Advantage? Nope, not in portugal. GPRS works flawlessly with my T610 but the speed of the GPRS connection wont take advantage of bluetooth 2.0, and no, 3G is not affordable yet.
